The house emulates the polite architecture of Georgian fashion but with a continuing local character, retaining its proportions and historic character. The property also displays Jersey’s vernacular tradition in the use of local materials and details, such as the tourelle stair. The overlay of French and British architectural influences is unique to Jersey and the Channel Islands. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.
Two-storey, five-bay main house with two-storey wing to east (20th century) and lean-to to west gable. Detached to south is 20th century garage. Barn to west, running north/south (converted and separate property).
Old Jersey Houses
An entry in Vol Two suggests that the rough tourelle staircase is the oldest part of the house, supported by the 1723 datestone.
A mysterious feature is a narrow passage leading from the hall to the west gable.
