- ↑ Both editions of The de Gruchys of Jersey confused Philippe Gruchy of St John (1819- ) with his fellow parishioner, Philippe de Gruchy (1820- ). The error arose from the 1871 St Helier census, which first muddled them; and two of the daughters. It was Philippe Gruchy who married Mary Ann. Philippe de Gruchy was at home in 1841. Thereafter he does not feature in Island censuses and seems not to have married

- ↑ There is a datestone at Cross Cottage Farm, St John - JDG ♥♥ MLM 1887 - which has been interpreted as a retrospective stone for Josue and his first wife, but no explanation has been found as to why it would have been erected with a date 35 years after both were dead, unless it was to retrospectively commemorate a purchase or alteration to the property
