Although Jean is shown as Laurens on the record of his marriage to Elizabeth Valpy, his son Philip Charles was baptised Lawrence and this spelling continued through his descendants. Philippe Charles was the only child of Jean and Elizabeth in the tree submitted to us for whom we could find a baptism, until we discovered that all his siblings were baptised Laurens. We have found no explanation for why the different spelling was used for Philippe Charles

Although the record of Jean's marriage to Elizabeth shows them both as residents of Trinity, we have been unable to find any record of Jean's baptism. There are also apparently no baptism records for seven of the 12 children of Philippe and Elizabeth Shields
