- ↑ Jean de Quetteville was shown previously on this page as having a wife named Gelienne. This is possible, though documentary proof exists showing that the mother of his children was Regnaulde Gallichan, the daughter of Philippot. - ↑ Emilie Picot married, secondly, in December 1839 at St Helier, Edward Mudge of Newton [Abbott], Devonshire, a Tinman. Born to the couple in 1840, was Matilda Mudge, who married in 1860, Nathaniel Harden, a Sailor. This information was most helpful in disentangling ambiguities relating to the de Quettevilles in this branch and generation. In the 1841 Census of St Helier, Edward and Amelia [Emilie] Mudge were living with their one year old daughter, Matilda, and with three of the four children of Amelia`s first marriage. These were Amelia de Quetteville (8), Jane de Quetteville (5) and George de Quetteville (3). Then, in the 1861 Census for All Saints` parish Southampton, there was living in Orchard Street, Nathaniel Harden, his above wife Matilda, two step-children from Harden`s first marriage and George de Quetteville, Matilda`s "brother" [Half-Brother], now aged only 21, a Tinman. Next door, was Charles Tibout, a Jersey-born Sailor, and Jersey-born Emilie Tibout, his wife [née de Quetteville], who was aged 24, and their six month old son Charles. By 1881, George de Quetteville and his sister Emilie were, once again, living with the Mudge family, although Emilie was now, once again, Amelia. The household consisted of Edward Mudge, Widower, Tinsmith employing 5 men, his son and daughter-in-law, and George de Quetteville (40), together with Amelia Tibot (sic), Widow, the last two being, of course, Mudge`s step-children. The varying ages of persons of both sexes, the regular interchange, back and forth, between the names Amelia and Emilie, are not particularly helpful, and nor was George de Quetteville having become "George Mudge" in 1871, when living with his sister, Jane Caroline, and her husband. George`s death in Southampton, was registered, however, as de Quetteville but his age was sixty-four
- ↑ Charles was christened on the 3rd March 1830 but may have been born during the previous winter (1829), as his age was given as "13" in the 1841 Jersey Census, when he was living with his grandparents

The 1871 Census of Woolston, Hampshire, has William and Jane Caroline living at River View with their six year old daughter Elise, and William`s "brother-in-law", George Mudge [George de Quetteville, by his correct name], Master Tinplate Worker
- ↑ Master Tinsmith in Southampton
- ↑ On godparent evidence, Anne married James, written Jaime, Norman
- ↑ Philippe de Quetteville settled in St Helier. His occupation is unknown. He was not among the merchants and shipowners listed by Saunders as being members of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce in 1768: Jersey in the 18th and 19th Centuries, (Jersey: Bigwood, 1930), 29-30, nor does he feature in any list of Master Mariners. However, he evidently prospered, as he was described, when a godparent in 1792, as Mons Philippe
- ↑ Constable of St Lawrence, 1795-1798; Captain RJM
- ↑ Merchant and shipowner, of Labrador and Jersey. By 1842 Philippe de Quetteville had increased the family`s fleet to ten vessels, and extended the number of its fisheries. He was Centenier, then Constable of St Helier, 1827-1830, and President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce. He was a Colonel, RJMA

- ↑ Senior partner in "De Quetteville Frères", upon whose shoulders most of the work and responsibility fell, after the early death of his father, and uncle. He was for many years a Jurat of the Royal Court (1851-1879) and was one of the champions of the mildly reformist Rose Party. A major concern of his was the attempt by the United Kingdom government to extend taxation to certain brackets of people in the Channel Islands. He was also Deputy Chairman of the Channel Islands Telegraph Company, at the time it became Government property. He gave evidence before a select committee of the House of Commons regarding the subject, in 1870, upholding once again the ancient constitutional rights of Jersey. Henry Edward Le Vavasseur dit Durell wrote that "when severely cross-examined by Mr Serjeant Sargood, who said "You are, I will not say a litigious man but a courageous man?" the Jurat replied "I have some Norman blood in me!": H.E. Le Vavasseur dit Durell, The Men Whom I Have Known, (Jersey Society in London Occasional Publications, No. VII), 17. He was a Captain, RJM

- ↑ Lieutenant, RJM (1858); co-representative of the family in J. B. Payne, An Armorial of Jersey. The noted `dip` in this branch`s fortune during the second half of the 19th century will, most likely, be a result of one or other of Jersey`s bank crashes, which occurred in 1873 and 1886. The former affected the most severely, the fortune of their St Helier namesakes

- ↑ Buried in Grouville as "Jeanne de Quetteville, veuve Jean Mourant". The genealogist, Charles Langton, has her on the tree, from court records, merely as "fille"
- ↑ This marriage was described in the register, in duplicated entries, as being Amice`s "troisième nopces", his third marriage: see "Discussion"
- ↑ The genealogist, Charles Langton, mentions a court case which shows that the sons of Clement de Quetteville (generation 4) and of Marie Le Maistre were, in order of seniority, Amice, Thomas and Clement. At least one daughter was also identified, if not by name, as the wife of Abraham Journeaux. Langton gives Clement`s wife as Judith Laurens, whilst Thomas`s wife was elsewhere named as Jeanne de Ste Croix. Their issue was as shown on this page
- ↑ Mentioned, in right of his wife, in a court case in 1732
- ↑ The Christian names Elizabeth and Marguerite (immediately below it on generation 3) have been discovered, presumably from their burials, in this generation. Court records have each as merely "a daughter", one marrying Jacques Nicolle, the next marrying Barthelemy Philippe. It is possible that, in fact, Marguerite was the elder, marrying Jacques Nicolle and that Elizabeth married Barthelemy Philippe
- ↑ Nouel does not appear in any court rolls or in Langton`s genealogy of the de Quetteville family, in this position, namely as a son of Jean de Quetteville. He was evidently a kinsman and may, in fact, have been a son of Michel (generation 2), as it appears in the Extente of 1607, 8, that he owed the Crown annually 2 cabots of wheat "for Michael de Quetivill", that is, as his legal successor. Such succession may arise from the sale of the land, upon which the charge is due, to Nouel or to a predecessor or from Nouel having inherited the land. The latter often indicates descent. However, the matter of descent from Michel is complicated by the Richardson alliance/s below
- ↑ He was living in England in 1566: Langton, from court records

- ↑ This placement, indeed the existence of Philippine, is based upon J. B. Payne, An Armorial of Jersey, 328. However, this "Philippine" may well have belonged to an earlier generation than her stated husband. An explanation lies perhaps in the possible confusion of "Philippine" with Jeanne, who features a few lines above

- ↑ Thomas died in 1546. His inheritance was divided in 1547/8 [Cour de Câtel]. The `ainé`, or senior heir, was John de Quetteville, above, the co-heirs being Nicolas, Michel and Julien de Quetteville
