Hilgrove Street, off Halkett Place, is popularly known as
French Lane, because that is where the Breton farmworkers
who used to come to Jersey for the potato harvest, would gather when they went into town on Saturdays. The two names are sometimes confused as Hilgrove Lane, but that is incorrect
