Five-bay house which retains its character, proportions and historic features externally. Internally the plan form remains as well as extensive joinery and fireplaces.
The house emulates the polite architecture of Georgian fashion but with a continuing local character. The curved boundary wall and south boundary wall with railings contribute to the roadside setting.
This building is shown on the Richmond Map of 1795. It originates from 1745 but was developed in the early 19th century.
House: Five-bay, two-storey with attic. Front (south) elevation: slate roof with paired rendered chimneys to each gable; three square dormers. Walls squared rubble stone with long quoins and dressed stonework to openings. First floor lintels in brick. Flat roofed, Tuscan porch with monolithic granite columns over central entrance. Original decorative fanlight. Gable (east) elevation: flat roofed section between two chimneys. Windows: attic nine-pane central hinged; first floor nine-pane (3/6) sashes; ground floor 12-pane (6/6) sashes, no horns.
South boundary wall, pebble dashed render wall topped by cast iron railings with central gate. West boundary wall is rubble curving round corner of road.
Two-storey converted outbuildings to west and lean-to outbuilding. Central entrance, double pile. Large entrance hall. Stair, in open well, has stick balusters, mahogany handrail ending in flat topped, turned newel; newel to attic is square. Six-panel doors and architraves. Ground floor north east room has curved alcoves but no fireplace. Ground floor north west room has historic kitchen cupboards. Corbelled fireplaces remain in ground floor north west and south west rooms. Three first floor rooms have reed moulded and bull's eye fireplaces, south east room has marble fireplace.
