The house was one of two identical ones commissioned by Sir Harold Bowden. One was for his sister and this one for his mistress, Doris Cary Houston. She owned the house in the 1930s and '40s but later sold it.

A distinctive circa 1920s house of unusual design, which retains its character and integrity. Rural villa in 'Hollywood-style'.

Assymetric composition with long two-storey buildings and three-storey tower, sitting on extensive terraces. Tower has arcade of arched windows on upper level.
